CREATING EFFECTIVE LESSON PLANS WITH AI AND DESIGN THINKING

     The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into lesson planning represents an original change in the educational landscape. As teaching gets more complicated, it is more important than ever to come up with new and creative ways to plan lessons. Additionally, Artificial Intelligence offers a powerful solution by enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of educational strategies. This advanced form of AI can analyze vast amounts of data, recognize patterns, and adapt to diverse learning needs,thus  allowing educators to craft personalized and engaging lesson plans. By applying the potential of AI, teachers can focus more on fostering student growth and less on administrative tasks, ultimately leading to a more dynamic and responsive educational environment.






    General Generative Artificial Intelligence refers to a type of artificial intelligence that exhibits the capability to understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks and domains, similar to human intelligence. Unlike narrow AI, which is designed for specific tasks, General Generative AI possesses the cognitive flexibility to adapt to new situations and solve problems that were not explicitly programmed into it. This type of AI can process and interpret complex data, make decisions based on past experiences, and improve its performance over time through learning. Generative AI's versatility makes it an invaluable tool in various fields, including education, where it can significantly enhance teaching and learning processes.




    Lesson planning is the process by which educators design and organize instructional activities and assessments to achieve specific learning objectives. It involves detailing the content to be taught, the teaching methods to be employed, the resources required, and the assessment techniques to measure student understanding. Effective lesson planning ensures that instruction is structured and coherent, providing a clear plan for both teachers and students. It helps teachers manage classroom time efficiently, address diverse learning needs, and create an engaging learning environment. For that reason, by carefully planning their lessons, teachers can make sure they follow the curriculum and help students learn as much as possible.



   Now that I have defined the key concepts learned during the specialization course, particularly in Module 3, I would like to elaborate on what we accomplished in this module. It is important to highlight that, throughout the course, we studied various AI tools, distinguishing between general AI tools and those specifically designed for educational purposes. The primary objective of Module 3 was to enable us to create a comprehensive lesson plan utilizing General Artificial Intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, and Gemini. This involved not only understanding the capabilities of these tools but also integrating them effectively into our teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes. By the end of the module, we were equipped with the skills to influence these advanced AI tools to design innovative and engaging lesson plans. I would like to add a short description of each GAI that was studied.


    ChatGPT is a chatbot made by OpenAI. Think of it as a very smart robot you can chat with. You can ask it questions, have it write stories, or even help you with homework. It’s like talking to a knowledgeable friend who knows a lot about many things.


    Microsoft Copilot is like a smart helper built into Microsoft apps like Word and Excel. Imagine having a super assistant that can help you write documents, create presentations, and even find information online, all by just asking it.


    Claude is an AI created by Anthropic. It’s like a careful and thoughtful assistant that helps with writing, analyzing information, and even coding. Claude is designed to be safe and reliable, making sure it gives helpful and accurate answers.


    Google Gemini is a set of smart tools from Google. It’s like having a digital assistant that can help with different tasks, from solving math problems to writing code. It’s designed to be very versatile and can handle a variety of jobs.



     On the other hand, the tools that are focused on Specific Generative Artificial Intelligence tools t I have discovered throught the course are Magic School and Brisk.  When we talk about Specific Generative Artificial Intelligence, we refer to the AI that focuses on creating content like text, images, or music by learning patterns from exiting data but focusing on a specific category, in this case I have focused on teaching.





    MagicSchool.ai is an AI platform designed for educators. It offers over 60 tools to help teachers with tasks like lesson planning, giving feedback, and writing assessments. It also has features to help students learn about AI responsibly1. Think of it as a digital assistant for teachers and students, making school work easier and more efficient.


    Brisk basically is a free AI-powered Chrome extension designed to help busy teachers save time. It integrates with tools like Google Docs, Slides, YouTube, and web articles to assist with tasks such as generating feedback, creating presentations, making quizzes, and developing lesson plans.


    I have worked with this tool for creating some resources to develop the activities given into the lesson plan that my group work and I created for the project we work on during this module. I will add more details and information later on.










    This document was created through a collaborative process involving my classmates and me, with significant assistance from ChatGPT. Initially, we researched the information relevant to the module on technical English for music production and event management. Based on this research, we developed a prompt for ChatGPT. A prompt is an instruction or set of instructions given to an AI model to generate a specific output. Our prompt provided detailed requirements for the lesson plan, ensuring it was tailored to our educational goals.

    ChatGPT generated a comprehensive lesson plan from this prompt. My classmates and I then reviewed the AI-generated content, modifying activities and creating additional resources to better suit our needs. While ChatGPT provided the foundational information, we expanded upon it, developing tailored exercises and materials aligned with our teaching objectives. This collaborative effort resulted in a detailed, practical, and engaging lesson plan for our module. By leveraging ChatGPT's capabilities, we saved time and enhanced the quality of our work, demonstrating the practical application of AI in educational settings.







     To conclude, incorporating General and Specific Generative Artificial Intelligence into lesson planning has the potential to revolutionize education by making it more personalized, efficient, and effective. General and Specific Generative Artificial Intelligence's advanced capabilities in analyzing vast amounts of educational data and adapting to individual learning needs allow educators to design highly customized lesson plans tailored to each student's unique strengths and weaknesses. This not only enhances student engagement and motivation but also improves learning outcomes by providing targeted support where it is most needed.

    The integration of tools, such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, and Gemini, into educational settings has demonstrated their ability to transform traditional teaching methods. These tools can handle a range of tasks from generating lesson plans to providing real-time feedback, thus enabling teachers to focus more on interactive and student-centered activities. The adaptability and cognitive flexibility of Artificial Intelligence mean that it can continuously improve and refine its contributions to education, keeping pace with evolving pedagogical needs.     As General and Specific Generative Artificial Intelligence continues to evolve, its role in education will likely expand, offering new opportunities for innovation in teaching and learning. The ongoing development of AI technologies will bring about more sophisticated tools and applications that can further enhance the educational experience. Embracing General and Specific Generative Artificial Intelligence in lesson planning is a forward-thinking approach that prepares both educators and students for the future. By fostering a more adaptive and responsive educational environment, General and Specific Generative Artificial Intelligence can help meet the diverse needs of modern classrooms, ultimately leading to a more inclusive and effective educational system.
